University students in Sri Lanka navigate a complex web of material, academic, and political pressures that deeply shape their daily lives. While some of these challenges are openly discussed, many remain swept under the rug. In response, Muragala Artivism Corner – Issue 4, under the theme ‘Struggles and Politics of Being a University Student in Sri Lanka’, invites artistic expressions that interrogate these realities.
The initiative is looking forward to creating space for discussions with regards to:
1. Severe financial constraints students face, that questions the adequacy of crucial support mechanisms like the Mahapola scholarship within the current economic climate;
2. Beyond financial strain, students confront intense academic stress, language barriers, and institutional capacity issues, all while struggling to keep pace with rapidly changing knowledge.
3. This strain is further compounded by practices such as ragging, which continues to impact the student experience.
4. Looking toward the future, the conversation extends to post-degree preparedness and employability in an increasingly AI-driven job market. This climate forces a critical examination of whether universities are just producing workplace-ready graduates or making space for independent, critical thinking.
5. The complex politics of collective action, examining how student unions articulate rights and common struggles, as well as their limitations or outright absence when union activity becomes heavily politicised.

ශ්රී ලංකාවේ විශ්වවිද්යාල සිසුහු තම දෛනික ජීවිතය තුළ ආර්ථික, අධ්යයන සහ දේශපාලනික වශයෙන් දැඩි පීඩනයකට මෙන්ම සංකීර්ණ අභියෝග රැසකට මුහුණ දෙති. ඒවායින් ඇතැම් අභියෝග පිළිබඳව සමාජය තුළ විවෘතව කතාබහ කෙරුණද, තවත් බොහෝ ගැටලු අවධානයට ලක් නොවී යටපත් වී පවතී.
මේ වෙනුවෙන්, මුරගල Artivism Corner – 04 කලාපය හරහා “ලාංකීය සරසවි සිසුවා: අරගලය සහ දේශපාලනය” යන තේමාව යටතේ, එම යථාර්ථය ප්රශ්න කරන ඔබේ කලාත්මක නිර්මාණාත්මක ප්රකාශනයන්ට අවකාශය ලබා දෙයි.
මෙම තරඟයේ තේමා ලෙස පහත සඳහන් ක්ෂේත්ර පිළිබඳව කතිකාවක් ගොඩනැඟීමට අප බලාපොරොත්තු වෙමු:
1. විශ්ව විද්යාල ශිෂ්ය ශිෂ්යාවන් මුහුණ දෙන දැඩි මූල්ය අපහසුතා සහ වත්මන් ආර්ථික වාතාවරණය හමුවේ මහපොළ වැනි ශිෂ්යාධාර ක්රමවේදයන්හි ප්රමාණවත්භාවය පිළිබඳ ගැටලුව.
2. ආර්ථික ප්රශ්නවලින් ඔබ්බට යමින් ශිෂ්ය ශිෂ්යාවන් මුහුණ දෙන දැඩි අධ්යයන පීඩනය, භාෂාමය ගැටලු (Language barriers), විශ්වවිද්යාල පද්ධතියේ පවතින සම්පත් හිඟකම සහ වේගයෙන් වෙනස් වන දැනුම සමඟ ඉදිරියට යාමට ශිෂ්ය ශිෂ්යාවන්ට ඇති අභියෝග.
3. ශිෂ්ය ජීවිතයට සහ සරසවි ජීවිතයේ අත්දැකීමට අඛණ්ඩව අහිතකර ලෙස බලපාන නවක වදය හා ඒ සම්බන්ධ ක්රියාකාරකම්.
4. උපාධියෙන් පසු රැකියාවන් සඳහා සුදානම සහ කෘතිම බුද්ධිය (AI) මඟින් හැඩගස්වනු ලබන රැකියා වෙළඳපොළක් තුළ ඇති රැකියා නියුක්ති ගැටලු. මෙහිදී විශ්වවිද්යාල මඟින් සිදු කරන්නේ රැකියා වෙළඳපොළට ගැළපෙන ශ්රමිකයන් බිහි කිරීම පමණක්ද, නැතහොත් ස්වාධීන සහ විවේචනාත්මක චින්තනයක් (Critical thinking) සහිත උපාධිධාරීන් බිහි කිරීමට එහි ඉඩක් තිබේද ආදී ගැටලු ද අයත් වේ.
5. ශිෂ්ය සංගම් හෝ වෙනත් කණ්ඩායම් හරහා ශිෂ්ය ශිෂ්යාවන් තම අයිතිවාසිකම් සහ පොදු අරගල වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටින ආකාරය මෙන්ම, මෙම ශිෂ්ය ව්යාපාර දැඩි ලෙස දේශපාලනීකරණය වීම තුළ පවතින සීමාවන් හෝ ඒවායේ ක්රියාකාරීත්වයේ පවතින හිඩැස් පිළිබඳ සංකීර්ණ දේශපාලන ස්වභාවය.

இலங்கையின் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்கள் தங்களது அன்றாட வாழ்க்கையில் பொருளாதார, கல்வி மற்றும் அரசியல் சார்ந்த பல்வேறு சிக்கல்களை எதிர்கொள்கின்றனர். சில சவால்கள் வெளிப்படையாகப் பேசப்பட்டாலும், பல இன்னும் கவனத்திற்கு வராமல் உள்ளன. இந்தப் பின்னணியில், “இலங்கையின் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்களின் போராட்டங்களும் அரசியலும்” என்ற தலைப்பின் கீழ் முரகலா ஆர்ட்டிவிசம் கார்னர் – 4ஆம் வெளியீடு, இந்த அனுபவங்களையும் பிரச்சினைகளையும் கலை வடிவங்களில் வெளிப்படுத்தும் படைப்புகளுக்கான அழைப்பை விடுக்கிறது.
குறிப்பாக கீழே குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள விடயங்கள் தொடர்பான உரையாடல்களுக்கு இடமளிப்பதே இந்த முயற்சியின் நோக்கமாகும்:
- தற்போதைய பொருளாதார சூழ்நிலையில், මහපொළ (Mahapola) கல்வி உதவித்தொகை போன்ற முக்கிய ஆதரவு அமைப்புகளின் போதுமான தன்மையை கேள்விக்குள்ளாக்கும் வகையில் மாணவர்கள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் கடுமையான நிதி சிக்கல்கள்.
- நிதிசார் அழுத்தங்களைத் தாண்டியும், மாணவர்கள் கடுமையான கல்விசார் மனஅழுத்தம், மொழித் தடைகள் மற்றும் நிறுவனத் திறன் குறைபாடுகளை எதிர்கொள்கின்றனர். இவை அனைத்தும் வேகமாக மாறிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் அறிவுலகத்துடன் இணைந்து செல்லும் போராட்டத்தை மேலும் தீவிரப்படுத்துகின்றன.
- இந்த அழுத்தங்கள், புதிய மாணவர்களை அவமதிக்கும் “ரேகிங்” (ragging) போன்ற நடைமுறைகளால் மேலும் சிக்கலாக்கப்படுகின்றன; அவை தொடர்ந்து மாணவர் அனுபவத்தை பாதித்துக்கொண்டே இருக்கின்றன.
- எதிர்காலத்தை நோக்கிப் பார்க்கும்போது, AI வழிநடத்தப்படும் வேலைவாய்ப்பு சந்தையில் பட்டதாரிகளின் தயார்நிலை மற்றும் வேலைவாய்ப்பு திறன் குறித்த கேள்விகளும் முக்கியத்துவம் பெறுகின்றன. பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள் வேலை சந்தைக்கு தயாரான பட்டதாரிகளை உருவாக்குகிறதா அல்லது சுயாதீன மற்றும் விமர்சன சிந்தனைக்கு இடமளிக்கிறதா என்ற கேள்வி விமர்சன ரீதியாக ஆராயப்பட வேண்டியுள்ளது.
- கூட்டு செயற்பாட்டின் சிக்கலான அரசியல், மாணவர் சங்கங்களின் உரிமைகள் மற்றும் பொதுவான போராட்டங்கள் எவ்வாறு வெளிப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன என்பதையும், தொழிற்சங்க செயற்பாடுகள் கடுமையாக அரசியல்மயமாக்கப்படும் போது அவற்றின் வரம்புகள் அல்லது இல்லாமை பற்றியும் ஆராய வேண்டிய தேவையை இது முன்வைக்கிறது.
