We are delighted to announce the winners of Muragala Artivism Issue 3 on the theme “Being Sri Lankan Amid the US-Israel War on Iran“.
The current status of the world has placed us in an emotional non-place – detached, unanchored and in subconscious dysconnectivity. For us in Sri Lanka, the threat of global conflict translates immediately to things like the return of the petrol queue – a visceral sense of déjà vu, an anxiousness, an uncertainty, an uninvited disruption that triggers the collective trauma of our own recent crisis.
Muragala l Centre for Progressive Politics & Policy invited artistic expressions as political critiques, exploring what it means to be Sri Lankan as the US-Israel ‘war of choice’ on Iran unfolds. As part of a third issue, we invited work that interrogates our position within this war, specifically capturing the sharp anxiety of recurring events, embodying the wait/weight, the scarcity, and the psychological toll of a society that is perpetually caught in the ripple effects of internal and external aggression, crisis and turmoil.
Congratulations to all participants for their inspiring and creative contributions! Submissions received for this issue spanned from memes to poetry, essays, and comics, and we have showcased selected submissions below.
