Muragala l Centre for Progressive Politics & Policy held a Webinar on “NPP politics and policy” on Monday, 16 September 2024, from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm (Sri Lankan time).
The National People’s Power or NPP was formed in 2019. The main political party within this alliance is the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna or JVP. Since its inception, the NPP secured around 3% of the vote in the 2019 presidential election and 2020 general election. Since the 2022 economic crisis and Aragalaya, the NPP’s popularity has accelerated. Today, the NPP has emerged as a frontrunner in the lead-up to the September 2024 presidential election. Its presidential manifesto is titled “පොහොසත් රටක්, ලස්සන ජීවිතයක් (A rich country, a beautiful life)”. This Muragala | Centre for Progressive Politics and Policy (CPPP) webinar aimed to discuss the politics and policies of the NPP.
