Please Donate! Relief Drive for Families in Sri Lanka Hit by November 2025 Cyclone Ditwah Floods & Landslides

Muragala l Centre for Progressive Politics is conducting a small-scale relief drive to worst-hit households in the following select areas, where our team members know the local community well. Our team has trusted access to relief officers and can identify the needs and distribute relief items and attend to their specific needs in person. Since many of these areas are still under pressure with the evolving disaster situation, our relief drive will occur in phases, starting from the second week of December 2025.

This small-scale relief drive will begin in the 2nd week of December 2025, once a more realistic assessment of community needs is made in the post-disaster period. For those who wish to donate for more immediate disaster responses, there are large relief operations conducted by the government and INGOs.

While a general ration pack will be made, we will also be transparently utilising a portion of the funds raised for the more specific & urgent nutritional, health and other needs of these identified families, especially of the elderly, sick, very young, and students whose education is disrupted by the floods.

  • Pujapitiya is a town in Kandy district severely affected by landslides. 15 families displaced by the landslides in this area will be identified.
  • Dankotuwa is a town in Puttalam district, which lies in the catchment area of the Maha Oya river basin. 15 families displaced by the flooding in this area will be identified. GN officials in this area have communicated with our team member the need for dry rations and anticipated that students in the area will need educational materials in the post-disaster period.
  • Maskeliya is a town in Nuwara Eliya district severely affected by landslides. 15 families displaced by the landslides in this area will be identified.
  • Hettipola is a town in Kurunegala district, where the heavy rains have affected the paddy crops of farmer communities in the area. 15 affected families in the area will be identified.
  • Peliyagoda is a town in Gampaha district, at the mouth of the Kelani river, often vulnerable to floods. 15 families displaced by the flooding in this area will be identified.
  • We are aiming to add one/two localities in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts (around 30 familes), once we get more details from there.

This effort aims to provide support to around 100 of the most affected families, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most and in a form that responds directly to their circumstances.
