This study analyses the mechanisms by which weak or a lack of political finance laws contributes to the underrepresentation of women in politics in Sri Lanka. This includes identifying the political finance-related obstacles that women face in relation to the electoral process, such as participation in political parties, candidacy nominations, and campaigning. The key objectives of the study are to analyze how underrepresentation is related to political finance, and with insights extended to the underrepresentation of other social groups, such as youth, ethnic and religious minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ groups.
